Thinking about taking a trip to Mozart’s beautiful city, Salzburg in Austria? Then here are a few foodie places you MUST visit…
Street Food (£)
First of all, make sure you visit some of the traditional markets that can be found in the heart of the old town. There is one that takes place on a Saturday, just off the main shopping streets in one of the squares, which has some tasty little treats. They had some of the most AMAZING bread I have ever had (the rustic wholemeal bread, the nutty/seedy ones, homemade (and knobbly) country baguettes, unique pretzel-croissant hybrids (very different and definitely worth a try!) and traditional salted pretzels! – you HAVE to have a pretzel when in Austria- it’s a must!

Restaurant Triangel
If you are looking for a lovely quaint and traditional restaurant to enjoy some authentic Austrian food, then look no further than Restaurant Triangel. This restaurant can be found in the heart of the old town – a perfect stop after a Saturday wandering around the sights, and a visit to the Austrian markets. This restaurant serves homemade classic dishes such as Wiener schnitzel (or chicken schnitzel) with potato salad , goulash, Bratwurst sausage with sauerkraut, and Salzburg black pudding and potato dish. It also serves some not-so-traditional meals, such as their tasty pesto pesto with sautéed garlic calamari (*note* these specials are subject to change).
On our visit, we enjoyed the crispy Wiener schnitzel (which really was tasty, BUT was a HUGEEE portion, so make sure you come hungry) as well as the traditional sausage and sauerkraut (a tangy fermented cabbage dish).

Hotel Sacher Salzburg
If you are looking for a slightly more premium-traditional restaurant, then take a trip to the Hotel Sacher. It has a couple of lovely places to choose from; from the elegant Sacher Café (where you can enjoy an indulgent traditional Sacher-Torte chocolate cake and patisseries, Restaurant Zirbelzimmer for delicious gourmet food, Roter Salon for an authentic cuisine, and the Salzachgrill for lovers of grilled dishes (and picturesque outside locations).
On our visit, we enjoyed a leisurely Sunday lunch at the Salzachgrill, which has an outside terrace that overlooks the Salzach river and Salzburg’s beautiful old town – it is a picturesque place to visit on a beautiful sunny day after a walk along the river (personally I would only go for the lovely outdoor dining experience – if you want to be inside, enjoy one of the other stylish restaurants in the hotel).
Here we enjoyed another Wiener schnitzel, as well as a fresh grilled prawn salad.

Blaue Gans Brasserie – Bar – Restaurant
The Blaue Gans restaurant is located in the centre of Salzburg’s old town, on one of the main shopping streets. This restaurant was highly recommended to us by a family friend who lives in Salzburg. It has a few set menus that are very popular with guests, offering various delicious delights, from meaty treats, fish dishes and vegetarian options; as well as few Austrian classics too. On our visit we enjoyed a delicate crab ravioli and succulent lamb with a rich jus and creamy polenta.

It offers exquisite ‘wining and dining’ in the roof top restaurant and bar; with gourmet soul food, great music and breath-taking views. There is a large outside terrace which you can enjoy during the warmer months, drinking an array of cocktails, eating tasty treats and soaking up the sun, all overlooking the beautiful city.

Imlauer Sky Bar and Restaurant
This hot spot is situated at the top of the Imlauer Hotel Salzburg. Rated as one of the best restaurants in the city, with its stunning rooftop terrace overlooking Mozart’s city, and its gastronomic delights … this place is somewhere you must visit on you trip!
The food offering is delectable and beautifully presented – perfect for a special occasion or a treat! The food we enjoyed here was just wonderful! A gourmet cuisine offering an array of delicate fish dishes, or juicy meats.
On our visit we enjoyed a traditional white Austrian fish with a soft pea puree, crisp apple relish, tangy tomatoes on a bed of tasty beans, as well as succulent rack of lamb with a rich wine sauce and crunchy seasonal vegetables.
